Vintage ‘Coolgardie’ Meat Safe

Meat safe or Coolgardie safe manufactured in Australia. This safe is made from metal and has been painted in green paint. A pattern of holes allow for ventilation and air flow. The holes also guard against insects etc. The safe has a hook attached – it would have been possible to hang from a tree or veranda to increase air flow. The safe would have been covered in wet hessian to promote further cooling and preservation of foods such as milk, butter and meat.
