Vintage Iron with Bakelite Handle

This vintage “sad iron” might not be doing any more ironing, but would be great as a door stop or as a decorative piece or prop.

In the Victorian age, ‘sad’ also meant ‘heavy’. These heavy irons were warmed by the fire and then used to iron clothing. Eventually, wooden and Bakelite handles were introduced making it much easier to iron without getting burnt!
